Guy Kawasakiの最近のblogで、「これからのネットサービスでこういうのはもうやめてくれトップ１４」（超訳）を示した記事に使われていた言葉。(cf. popxpopの記事)

I have 7,703 email addresses in Entourage. I am not going to re-type them into the piece-of-shiitake, done-as-an-afterthought address book that companies build into their products.

shiitake? この使われ方からすれば、どちらかというとネガティブな雰囲気だ。Wikipediaには「比喩」で使われるケースの解説はなかった。Googleで"shiitake"を検索し、お料理レシピ関連を除いてみると、ごく少数だけど、ちらほら見つかった。「これこれこういうのって超ダサい。shiitake.」みたいに、なんとなく今回の使い方と共通項があるようだ。

早速、Guy Kawasakiにメールして意味を尋ねたら、出張中だとかで秘書の方から代理で返信が来て、そのわりには一通りディスカッションを楽しんだ。日本人だから椎茸が「a kind of mashroom」だとかは知ってるよね、なんとか話しているうちにようやくわかってきた。たとえばこういう使い方でいい？

When I enjoy some web-sites, I suddenly face the crash of Windows Internet Explorer. I can say "How sad this shiitake browser is...", instead of saying loudly "s**t browser bozo-made!!" or like this. Right?

椎茸をあしざまに言うとはけしからんのだが、要は、a way of swearing without swearingすなわち「ネガティブ」な印象を露骨な表現を回避してやんわり言う、ダジャレスラングなんだね。
